not_a_typical_daydream (that's a great name) ..my two-cents which adds up to nothin' - first, I don't dislike Donna as a person; in fact, I like her a lot and wish I had seen her in concert -- she looks so cool in that long white gown during the "Closing of Winterland" DVD. (Oh, I heard her interview by Bill Walton on Sirius and she could not have been any more gracious as an individual and as a former member of the band; it was very cool how she coninously praised the guys in the band -- all of them -- for how well they treated her throughout her career with -- she kept saying how much respect they showed her all the time and made her feel at "home" and never passed judgement for any of the well-documented antics on tour between gigs -- her comments, not mine)
My thing about Donna is primarily around the tunes that truly "carry me away" (Playin' in the Band, circa '72 - '74) -- I focus on the individual instruments and the whole that is greater than the sum of those parts and start well, .."traveling"...internally....it is such a shock to my feeble consciousness when she lets out those screams upon re-entry into "Playin'" and even during the outro of stand-alone "Scarlets" during that era. It is a pathetic confession, but until I figure out this digital age crap I tend to stay away from those songs that give me "shock therapy" out of such a peaceful space. Pathetic...I know. But to be fair: she more than makes up for the above during the Jerry Band shows (where do I possibly begin? - "Stir it Up," -- just one of so many where she adds so much golden sparkles to the internal ether...) Nice to hear you like the site; too bad there's no Jerry Band here -- it's elsewhere, however the cats that comment on the shows in the archive are just classic, irreplaceable (as I'm sure you know by reading reviews of the Grateful Dead shows) - AshesRising (jerri1031-dp3@yahoo.com)

those Playin screams were to wake you from the dreamtrance
that Playin can take you to...which was good for me, so not too many bugs flew into my open awestruck mouth.
A wakeup call to "normal" reality-Thank you DJG!

i gotta agree with Ashes though - that wakeup call could oftentimes be like a sledgehammer to the face during a nice peaceful dream.

btw - is there an issue with "dropload" currently - i couldn't retrieve the "spam" - will try later though - maybe it was my end - crappy weather here. thanks for sending it man.

Sledghammer to the face? I'm sorry but that cannot encompass what at times has been a buzzkill that burns with the white hot intesity of a thousand suns. Perhaps it might be better to say "a backhoe to the face".
